On the 4th of December, the Wednesday bar ‘Wetter Mi.’ at SCAPE° was all about the sea. Scientists from the DFG-funded research training group ‚Fixing Futures‘, the artists‘ collective ‚may_Fly___‘ and a performance collective from the ‚Performative Arts in Social Fields‘ degree programme formed an interdisciplinary ensemble to explore how we relate to the sea and its life forms.

The evening opened with the performance ‚What the sea reflects‘. Afterwards, the four doctoral students Nils Richterich, Alina Gombert, Annabelle Müller and Hansjörg Graul from ‚Fixing Futures‘ took us with them on their field research into the sea. In their fascinating stories, we learnt more about the rights of nature, persistent ‘eternal’ chemicals, marine algae and supposedly deserted islands. We finished by experiencing the sea with a video installation by the artist collective ‘may_Fly___’. In the hours that followed, we discussed the sea and its (and our) possible futures over refreshing drinks.
