Short Vita
Alina studied Sustainable Agriculture (B.Sc.) and Crop Sciences (M.Sc.) in Kleve, Bonn and Lyon. As an agricultural scientist, she worked from 2018 to 2023 at the Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants (Julius Kühn-Institut) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). In her current work she is looking for bridges between the arts and the rural, between the agricultural sciences and the social sciences and between agriculture and feminism. As a part of the //KOMPOST ensemble, she explores emancipatory ruralities in northern Hesse. She is excited by the transdisciplinary perspectives opened up by Science and Technology Studies.
Project Description
Agri-food systems are complex multispecies economies with locally-situated conditions, embedded in societal power relations. How agriculture will feed the ever-increasing world population in times of multiple crisis is contested, and there is no shared understanding of anticipated threats and envisioned futures. Will broccoli be produced in the future in automated multi-story buildings with a nature conservation area at the side or in biodiverse, labor-intensive and small-scale agroecosystems? The project “Shaping agricultural futures: Contested technologies of anticipation” explores how farmers and agricultural scientists take care of agricultural futures. The multiplicity of agricultural future-making will be explored by looking at technologies of anticipation in agriculture. Here, technologies are understood as sets of practices that enact practical and goal-oriented rationalities, and anticipation is understood as taking care of something ahead of time.
