Ben Anderson

Ben Anderson, a Professor in the Department of Geography at Durham University, is a cultural-political geographer known for his forward-looking research on the politics of affect. His work places a strong emphasis on future-oriented inquiries, particularly in the realms of emergency governance, Brexit, and the rise of populisms. Anderson’s notable contributions extend to the exploration of anticipation and the deployment of new forms and practices, such as exercises and scenarios, by western states to navigate and act upon discontinuous futures. His research, generously supported by prestigious institutions, exemplifies a commitment to understanding how ordinary affective life intersects with transformative landscapes, providing valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of cultural geography.

Ben Anderson will join Fixing Futures as a Mercator Fellow in October 2025.
