Project Description
Naomi studies the politics of anticipation in global biodiversity governance and conservation. Her doctoral project investigates how the biodiversity crisis is framed as a matter of concern for anticipatory action and focuses on the co-production of knowledge and policy in the context of global environmental change. Her research traces discourses about biodiversity futures through the knowledge practices that render biodiversity present in key international platforms like the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and critically analyzes the role of assessments, indicators, scenarios and models as devices in shaping policy responses to the biodiversity crisis. By investigating the contested nature of knowledge in environmental decision-making, the project sheds light on the political stakes of governing biodiversity in the Anthropocene.
